Our History
Native Tulsans Shelley and Steve Jackson always dreamed of owning a ranch that would be a vacation home for their family. Growing up, their daughters Meredith and Stephanie remember this being a regular topic of discussion at the dinner table. In 1995, Steve’s cousin introduced them to the area as a haven for duck hunting and they immediately knew that Boswell, Oklahoma would be the future home of their ranch. In 1998, the Jacksons bought the land and stayed in the “brick house” (now the caretakers’ home) when they visited. They enjoyed weekends of hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, target-shooting, and entertaining their friends and family. In 2005 they built the beautiful estate which is now the Rockin J Ranch where the fun continued, just with nicer accommodations.
After the house was built, it was apparent that a ranch doesn’t quite feel like a ranch without cattle. So in 2007 Shelley and Steve embarked on a journey of breeding award-winning black angus cows which you will see on the property of this private working cattle ranch today. They built a sale barn in 2015 and have since held acclaimed bull sales each winter.
For more than two decades the family has loved coming to the Rockin J Ranch as a cherished retreat and their beloved dog Boone, a beautiful Black Mouth Cur, enjoyed 17 of those wonderful years with them. When Steve Jackson passed away in early 2020 the family felt it only made sense to share this one-of-a-kind property with guests looking to make memories of their own. The Jacksons are extremely excited about this next chapter for the Rockin J Ranch and look forward to hosting guests who will enjoy it as much as they do.
